The tradition of the district:
Ancient Traditions:
1600 --- 1700 AD, a mosque was built during the period of Shah Shuja. It is known as Chowdhury Para Mosque or Ajgabi Mosque. It is located north of the BDR camp of Cox's Bazar Sadar.
Pagoda (Jadi):
After the victory of Araakan in 1790, Burmese Rakhine community built it in different areas of Cox's Bazar. They call it a memorial sign . This kind of Pagoras are seen in hill or hill top of Cox's Bazar Sadar, Ramu and Teknaf.
Aggmeda Khyang:
According to size (big and small) there are more than 7 Buddhist Khyang in Cox's Bazar Sadar. Aggmeda Khyang and Mahsingdogi Khyang are the biggest. The Buddhist statues built in this Khyang are good looking. Religious festivals of Buddhist, Buddhist Purnima, Prabarna Purnima and Bishu festival are celebrated in Khyang.
Ramkot Pilgrimage:
It is located at the top of hill adjacent to the Ramkot forest monastery. It was founded in 901 bangla year. It was said that Ram-sheeta stayed in Ramkot during their exile. Alongside Pilgrimage temple there is also a small Buddhist statue absorbed in Meditation . It was reported that the statue was established in the time of Emperor Ashoka as a prove of the community of the two religions living side by side peacefully.
Changkhaib Khyang:
Changkhaib Khyang is located on the bank of the river Bakkhali at srikul of Ramu Upazila. In this Buddhist monastery, more than 10 pieces of brass and many white pavilions are preserved in various designated seats and glass containers. Including all, 23 Buddhist monasteries in Ramu thana have more than hundreds of valuable Buddhist statues.
Tunnel of the one-eyed King:
The tunnel or hole is situated in the Nidania hill near Patuar tek beach at Jalia Palang union in Ukhia Thana. The diameter of the tunnel or hole is 12 / 12. A big truck effortlessly will be able to enter this tunnel or hole. It was said that this tunnel was built to protect itself during the reign of Kana Raja (one eyed king) of Magh community.
Mathins well
Novelist Dhiraj Bhattacharya, at the beginning of the Nineteenth century, as a sub inspector was transferred to police station at Teknaf. Then Mathin, loving daughter of a famous Rakhain landlord of teknaf Wangthin who used to collect water regularly from the well in front of the Thana. Coming to collect water in the morning and afternoon was Marthins hobby. The police officer used to sit in the Porch of the police station every day to observe the arrival and exit of collecting water by extremely beautiful Mathin. Gradually Mathin and Dhiraj Bhattacharya were in eye contact with each other and later it turned into 'love'.
Being failed to marry, Mathin burnt down for the separation and slowly died. Mathin's well is a silent witness of Mathin's insatiable love story. in the premise of teknaf thana this well is located. Renowned journalist Abdul Kuddus Rana took the initiative to renovate the bamboo well in 1994. Later it was reformed by the Zilla Parishad. Now the well is very attractive. Short history of love was also written there. A short-length movie has been filmed by local artists on the above-mentioned story.
'Mother' octagon:
By the side of the Maheshkhali Adinath shib Temple, there is another Brigraho statue called 'octagon'. It takes 45 to 55 minutes from Cox's Bazar Kosturaghat by boat and 15 to 18 minutes by the speed boat. Adinath temple can be visited by rickshaw from Gorakh ghata jetty in Maheshkhali.
