Construction works of a single-point mooring (SPM) at Moheshkhali Island have started recently. The authority has already acquired a total of 191 acres of land for the purpose and handed over the land to the project authority. The project 'Installation of Single-Point Mooring with Double Pipeline' includes construction of storage tank, pump house and pipeline.
The estimated cost of the project is around Tk 5,500 crore. The project is expected to be completed by August 2021.The Chinese Exim Bank has signed an agreement to provide financial assistance for the project. After installation of the SPM, the petroleum-carrier big ships will be able to offload fuel directly to the pipeline to take fuel to the Eastern Refinery (ERL).
